How the Google Search Engines Work

One question that comes in the mind of every person who uses Google is “how the Google search engine works”. It is in fact a question that has several insights that are hard to understand but here we will tell you those insights in a layman language so that you better understand the functioning of a search engine and take required actions to bring your site in Google’s search result.

Google has 60 Trillion web pages that are queried when someone enters a search term in Google. From those pages, Google has to pick the pages related to the search terms, and from those picked pages, Google pushes the high quality pages on top and low quality pages on the back. And behind this there are three phases of Google Search Engines Function, as listed below:

  1. Crawling and Indexing: The very first mantra of Google’s functioning is crawling and indexing a web page. Google crawls and indexes every web page of a website including images, videos, tags, and various other elements depending upon the settings done by the website owner. If a website owner does not want Google to index images from his website, then Google will not index them but will index all other pages and content. Once indexed in Google, the phase two starts.
  1. Algorithms: It is the phase of formulas and programs, which interprets users query entered in the search term based on search methods, spelling, synonyms, etc. Based on the query string generated after you have entered the query, there are above 200 factors that work to determine the page you should view, which page will come at top, and which will rank in back pages.
  1. Fighting SPAM: Last phase is to keep spammers away. While Google uses many search parameters, people often try to manipulate their website’s ranking by SPAMMING those parameters. For example, they create abundance of pages by duplicating the content, generating backlinks from millions of websites, and so on. While such people think this method will work, Google is able to understand this type and many other types of SPAMS and therefore, he has both manual and automated solutions to find and hit such spammers. Google applies penalties on Spammers as Manual action or automated action. Depending upon the severity of SPAM, the complete site or a few pages may be removed from Google’s indexed causing you a big loss.

So, this is how the Google search engine works. So be careful if you are a website owner and do not ever do SPAM or allow someone to do it.
